STILL LIFE EXPLORATIONS

 

My still life studies are abstracted explorations of light and form, infused with emotion, embracing imperfections, expressed in essence rather than the very real. Old, dusty, worn and weathered bowls in particular fascinate me as a subject matter. Perhaps it is the imagined stories and secrets gathered from the daily life around them and silently stored over time.

 

BIOGRAPHY

 

Karin is a Sydney based, mixed media painter. Strongly influenced by her Scandinavian background, drawing her to a subdued neutral palette. The natural environment inspires Karin, however, each piece is created with emotion and passion as she draws most of her inspiration from her inner landscape. She paints what she feels rather than what she sees.

 

Karin likes to evoke a sense of calm on the canvas using layering, subtle tone and texture to create curiosity and interest. She wants the viewer to discover new details over time, finding hints of early layers, like snippets of history.
