GRATITUDE AND ORCHIDS

For this small series of work I was first inspired by a piece I did for Look magazines 40th anniversary edition. I was very luckily to be given the opportunity to create a work to be used as a gifted card that depicted a table scape with a birthday party theme to be given to all the    members of the Art Gallery of NSW. After completing that work I was musing on how lucky I was and how although life has not or is not     always easy I have so much to be grateful for, and it was this idea that brought me to make this small exhibition -Gratitude and Orchids.
In this body of work I have imagined some of my close friends and some family all at the same birthday party, but in a way that each one is also at their own birthday.

Each work has objects of significance that make each painting a form of portrait through objects while still embracing the collective            celebration. Through this series I hope to celebrate both some of the wonderful unique creative people I love and who make my life so much richer but also to remind myself of all the small things that I have to be grateful for even if it’s just the orchids in my house coming into bloom.
