STORIES OF COLOUR AND MOVEMENT
Mandy Francis
Mandy Francis’s vibrant and whimsical artworks are inspired by small moments in her garden, studio, or nature, where she finds stories waiting to be painted. With a keen eye for patterns, colour, perspectives and movement, Mandy transforms everyday observations into a rich tapestry of figurative and abstract works.
Based in her home studio on the Central Coast of NSW, Mandy captures fleeting thoughts and scenes through notes and photographs, later translating these into her expressive paintings and unique sculptural pieces. Her work often features delightful bird sculptures and assemblages crafted from recycled materials, showcasing her innovative approach to art-making.
With a Fine Art degree from the National Art School, Sydney, and further academic achievements including a Masters and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Newcastle, Mandy's artistic journey is as rich as her creations. Her career as an installation artist and researcher has led to residencies in Japan and Australia, including remote communities in the central desert, NT, and exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Artspace, Sydney, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney.
