MYRIAM KIN-YEE
SOLO EXHIBITION

My recent interest has been to examine the underlying phenomenon of geometry, abstract shape, colour, rhythm and composition that makes an image so compelling. For this exploration, I have focused mostly on the floral still life but I firmly believes the same ‘hidden order’ applies to every genre be it landscape, still life or figurative, whether the approach be representational, abstract or expressive. It also helps to have friends in the valley who are brilliant gardeners!

Originally from Vanuatu Myriam studied Fine Arts at Sydney University in the late 60s, then design at Sydney College of the Arts. After a professional life in graphic design, Myriam decided to resurrect an old dream and moved to the Kangaroo Valley, NSW in 2004, to paint full time.

Her work has been mainly figurative and representational. She has been accepted as a finalist in the Portia Geach Portrait Prize twice in the past years when she has entered. She continues to hone her skills by occasionally attending various art institutions such as the NY School of Visual Arts, the Julian Ashton School Sydney, the NY Studio School and more recently, the London Slade School of Fine Arts - the wandering perennial student!
