PETRA REECE
MARIE ST AND OTHER PLACES

The artist whose work I never get tired of looking at is Edward Hopper, I love his quote:

“What I wanted to do was to paint sunlight on the side of a house”

For some years my art practice has involved houses, places of warmth, comfort and secrets.

I have always been drawn to light fall and shadow, especially what is clearly seen and also partially hidden.

I combine memory and imagination to create places of exaggerated colour, contrasts and stark perspectives.

My buildings and houses stand alone, usually isolated, and seem to take on a personality of their own.
