LIGHT IS THE MESSENGER

SARAH FORDYCE
Sarah Fordyce’s practice explores the meeting between internal and external landscapes, where she layers interactions between mystery, place, and the everyday. She is interested in the ways darkness and light disrupt the familiar, opening up psychological spaces in the body, and fostering deeper looking. A full moon in the backyard, the space between branches, or a window in the morning – Sarah’s work seeks the wildness that dwells beside or behind the intimate. Her oil paintings have rich colour, thin layers of paint, and active lines informed by a regular drawing practice.
Since graduating from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Fine Art, Sarah has shown in numerous solo exhibitions around Australia, including as part of the Clayton Utz Partnership with 3:33 Art Projects. In 2023 Sarah was selected for Works On Paper 5 with Blue Shop Cottage in London. She had solo exhibitions with A.K Bellinger Gallery in 2021, 2022, and 2024, and has shown in group exhibitions with A.K Bellinger Gallery, Divisions Gallery, and Rubicon ARI. Sarah has been a finalist in the Len Fox Painting Award and in 2019 was the recipient of the Small Projects Grant.
