MARGARET MCINTOSH
IN AND OUT

Margaret McIntosh likes being inside other people’s houses, having a look at their things. The allure of being privy to displays of prized belongings and intimate glimpses into the settings of their daily lives. As visitors we are invited to move through hallways, living rooms and kitchens - spaces that transcend public and private space. Moving through these areas we fabricate our own understanding of what we see, how spaces and objects are used when we’re not there, why particular objects are given special place on a mantle piece. What we don’t see has its own intrigue; what lies behind closed doors, what’s stocked in the fridge or crammed into the third drawer down?
